Yahoo! Maps way ahead of Google...

For the past weeks, i've observed some really signicant differences between the 2 maps... and even though I dont like the yahoo maps interface, I feel google maps is just way primitive than its Yahoo! competitor...

First, you cant do point A -> point B -> point C and so on... on google maps. This was ultra-useful to me when planning the trips over the last weekend... I hate to use multiple windows to calculate from Mountain View - Sunnyvale - Folsom - Lake Tahoe and back. Worse, to find the total distance I've to manually add them... One great feature of Yahoo Maps.

Second, the accuracy of the maps itself: Hmm... rather than accuracy, I should say ability of the Maps. Although I've forgotten the exact instances where Yahoo recognizes my input while Google didnt, I do remember there were quite a few times that I first typed something on Google, and then went back to Yahoo to search for that place.

Third: Even though this is probably a tease than a necessity, this is defientely a great feature - Have you ever just 'surfing' the maps and wondered how far is it from your place? Well, with Yahoo Maps, you can just right click and say "Drive to here" or something like that!! They take the co-ordinates of the map, and give you a driving distance and direction! This is just great!

Next, although Google has implemented airport codes now, as far as I remember, Yahoo had this a lot earlier than the competition.

Finally: Live traffic: I should say, whoever designed this maps, drive a lot and know what to put in maps. Again, I havent seen a direct consequence/accuracy of the data since I try to take the route that has least congestion, it definetely gives a good indication of what might the overall traffic look like. This is by far the 'coolest' feature of all :)

Having said all this, the interface seems cluttered, which still makes me use Google maps sometimes. I cannot pin-point the problem with the interface, but the color scheme or the font/size isnt as great as Google's. That apart, Yahoo! maps beta just nails Google at this point of time (I would love to see Google innovation here - Just as the "conversation" feature alone made me switch all of my personal email from Yahoo to Google :D)
